Yes, I am a believer. I always believe that a good bed time routine helps our babies to have a good night sleep thus helping them to be more healthy and happier. We were lucky that we have not experienced any difficulties for Peachy to sleep when she is still an infant , we were saved from lost of sleep, cradling, rocking and long time of feeding and changing diaper. She’s a real angel, when it’s time to sleep, just a simple bed time routine makes her doze to sleep easily, maybe because we have tried all our best to follow the instructions given by my hubby’s former nanny (she’s a midwife) and from what i have read from the book and the internet.

Establishing a good bedtime routines really help my baby to relax and sleep easily and hopefully by sharing them, it could help yours too.

Swaddling

When, Peachy is still an infant , i used to swaddle her on her blanket and put her near my bosom so she will feel the warmth and security. Even though she had a crib, i let her sleep beside me so she will not have the feeling of being left alone.

Now, that she’s a toddler we still do some of the routines we usually does while she was still much younger but of course the difference now is she knows how to interact.

A warm bath or a simple wash

A warm bath or a simple washing helps her to feel cool on a very hot day. If it’s a bath, i make sure that it was very short one because I don’t want her to catch cold or coughs. After a warm bath or wash and brushing her teeth, changing her nappies, a massage with oil or lotion helps to relax her.

Reading Stories

My baby loves to read and before she go to sleep, i let her choose a book for mommy to read. Although she loves Winnie the Pooh but when it’s night time she usually chooses the story of Peter Rabbit and Mickey Mouse adventures.

Listening to music

When she was still in my womb, i used to listen to classical music and some lullabies and when she’s still an infant i play this songs because i have read that our brain functions even when we sleep and listening to relaxing lullabies helps us to have beautiful dreams and now once in a while we still listen if she requested to.

Singing

This is one part of our routine that still goes on until today. When my baby is still in my womb , i used to sing Twinkle, twinkle little star and rock a bye-baby when she’s really pushing me hard and somehow it helps her relax and until now, Twinkle, twinkle little star still helps her relax and sleepy, maybe my voice really makes everybody sleepy (because i sing badly ) but seriously, singing to your children reassure them that we are there for them.

A short chat and a kiss goodnight.

My Peachy is really talkative and even before sleeping, she really loves talking but i make it sure that it will be brief , it’s time to turn off the lights and give her a goodnight kiss and a prayer to Papa Jesus will be the end of our chat and a time for her to close her eyes and get ready for a good night sleep.

Our bed time routine is simple but it does help her achieve a great sleep.
